PTO Booster Club Contributions -
The deadline to make a contribution to the PTO Booster Club has been extended. While contributions are welcome any time, in order for the contribution to count toward the fundraiser prizes, the donation must be received by today, Friday, October 29, 2010. Please make all checks out to PTO Booster Club and include your child’s name on the check. The checks can be given to your child’s homeroom teacher.
“All contributions are much appreciated and will be used to purchase additional technology for the MCMS student body.”

Sports Eligibility – Today, Friday, October 29th is sports eligibility day. Today teachers will review student grades to see if those of you that wish to participate in sports are eligible by meeting the requirements.

Costume Contest – Also today, Friday, Oct. 29th we can be dress up in your greatest Halloween costume! Please note that costumes must be appropriate for school……..
Halloween Costume Guidelines:
1. Students must be dressed and ready prior to coming to school.
2. If face painting is part of your costume, it must be completed at home and may not create a mess within our school.
3. NO masks will be allowed.
4. No costumes relating to violence of any sort will be allowed.
Let’s have fun with this event. Prizes will be awarded at the end of the day in two categories.
a. General Halloween theme
b. Summer read themes –“Stormbreaker” or I’d Tell you I Love You, But I’d have to Kill You”
If in doubt about what are wearing, please talk with your homeroom teacher or an administrator.
Our PTO will also be handing out sweet treats to start off a safe and fun Halloween weekend.

Wrestling Workouts – Wrestling conditioning workouts for anybody interested in Wrestling will begin on Tuesday and Thursday of next week. The workouts would be from 3:00-4:00 so you will need your ride here ready to pick you up by 4:00. Rodney Woods….

Glee Club – The Glee Club will meet every Wednesday afternoon from 3:00 to 4:00 in Mrs. Dodgens room # 22 unless changed beforehand.

Cheerleader – *On Saturday, February 12th the cheerleaders will host a Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser at Applebees. We would love for you to make plans to attend. In the meantime, we are looking for two people, students and /or staff to take the pancake challenge of who can eat the most pancakes. The winner receives a gift card for a free meal from Applebees. If interested, see Dega Lancaster this week.

Volleyball - WOW! The Lady Minutemen had fantastic games against Pamlico and Arapahoe last night.
The Lady Minutemen swept the floor with the Pamlico team creating some awesome rallies, digs and serves. The scores against Pamlico were 27-25 and 25-19.
The Lady Minutemen also cleaned house with Arapahoe, staying focused and winning with scores of : 25-15 and 25-9.
*Looking forward to our scrimmage game against Beaufort today after school here at home!

Boys Golf – Just a reminder to the boys’ golf team, please turn in your team golf bags ASAP.

Boys Soccer – The boys lost their opening game against Newport Middle yesterday 4-3. Goals were scored by Will Onorato, Michael Mansfield, and Michael Tyndall.
Next game against Beaufort Middle is on Wednesday in Beaufort.
Please note that the boys’ soccer game that was schedule on Monday, November 1st has now been changed to Thursday, November 4th. Soccer games begin at 3:30 pm.

8th Grade Band – All 8th Grade Band Students will spend both encore classes in the bandroom today. Students should report to band after returning from lunch!

Glee Club – The Glee Club will meet every Wednesday afternoon from 3:00 to 4:00 in Mrs. Dodgens room # 22 unless changed beforehand.


Football – The Red Machine had a tough go of it against a strong Pamlico team yesterday afternoon. They kept playing right to the final whistle.

Mr. DeGiule would like to thank all the staff and students that have come out and supported the team this year. It was greatly appreciated. The coaches are very proud of you guys!

It has been a pleasure coaching you this year and I wish you the best in the other sports you take-on.

Coaches will start collecting CLEAN equipment tomorrow, Friday after school upstairs in the equipment room. Players get all of your belonging out to the locker-room ASAP.

Cheerleader – Cheerleaders will practice today, Thursday, October 28th in Mrs. Hopkins Room # 27 after school.

Volleyball – Last night the Lady Minutemen Volleyball Team took the bark out of the Broad Creek Bulldogs. Our ladies put up great serves and fantastic defense winning against Broad Creek in two games with scores of 25-9 and 25-16.
We had 12 awesome serves from Ruthie Brady, Emma Gomez with a whopping 23 serves for both combined games. In our second match the mighty Minutemen won their game against Beaufort 25-20 with Payton “Macaroni” McLaughlin serving 12 in that first game.
The Lady Minutemen took a hard loss to Beaufort Middle in the last two games with scores of 15-25 and 12-15. The referee told Coach Tarter after the game that she had never seen two middle schools play so well. What a great compliment girls! Thanks to all who came out to support the Team!
PRACTICE TODAY! We will be back on the road to Pamlico Middle School on Thursday, October 28th.

Boys Golf – The boys’ golf team finish the season with 2nd place finish at the conference match yesterday afternoon. Broad Creek won with a score of 208, MCMS had a score of 217, and Beaufort Middle came in 3rd place with a score 236.
Jacob Robertson led the Minutemen with a score of 52 which was good for 3rd place overall. The other top scores for MCMS were Sam Utz with 54, Duncan Ross with 55, and Jack Rixey with 56. Great Job Guys! Please turn in your team golf bags this week.

Happy Friday!

MCMS will have a prosperous 2010-2011 School Year.

Athletic Booster Meeting – There will be an Athletic Booster Meeting on Monday, October 25th at 6:00 pm in the cafeteria lobby. Please join us!


Athletic Pictures – Sport pictures will be taken today, Friday, October 22nd after school. Pictures will be taken for the following teams:

Football team @ 3:15 on the field

Girls’ Soccer team @3:30 on field

Boys’ Golf team @ 3:45 on the field.


Make a Difference Campus Clean Up/Join Us – Tomorrow, Saturday, October 23rd from 9:00 -11:30 am.

*Make a Difference Day will be Saturday, October 23, 2010. This is a program endorsed by our Governor and has become the nation’s largest day of volunteering in many ways.

In North Carolina, our Governor wants Make a Difference Day to focus on schools, and on the state level has partnered with the NC Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service, AmeriCorps programs and members, nonprofits, faith-based organizations, National Service programs and the business community.
*MCMS will participate in this initiative with a campus clean up morning from 9-11:30. Together, students, staff, and parents will clean up our school grounds. Activities will include raking, trimming, weeding, power washing and painting and other projects.
*We encourage all staff members and families to participate and Make a Difference at MCMS! Please bring your own garden gloves, tools, rakes, etc. Our school has one power washer and we could use a few more. Please let Dr. Kreuser know if you plan to bring your own to use so that we can make arrangements ahead of time with hoses and water connections.


Costume Contest - Halloween will soon be here Ghouls and Goblins of MCMS! On Friday Oct. 29th we welcome you all to dress up in your greatest Halloween costume! Prizes will be awarded at lunch that day for the most creative costume, the funniest costume, and the costume that is a character from our summer reading adventure titles: Stormbreaker by Anthony Horowitz and I'd Tell You I Love You But Then I'd Have to Kill You by Ally Carter.
* Please note that costumes must be appropriate for school and cannot have masks, hoods or weapons of any type. Our PTO will also be handing out sweet treats to start off a safe and fun Halloween weekend.


Volleyball – The MCMS Minutemen Volleyball Team would like to thank all who came out to support them for their first two matches. We will be on the road next week at Beaufort and Pamlico.


Golf – The boys golf team fare better in their match yesterday afternoon beating Beaufort Middle by 7 strokes and losing to Broad Creek by 7 strokes. The boys team was led by Sam Utz who shot a 32 and Jacob Robertson who shot a 34. Final match is next Tuesday. Practice on Monday.

Don’t forget to stay after school today for pictures.
