Support for our TROOPS/ Project We Care! – Thanks to all of you who supported our Troops in the Project We Care! The homeroom class that brought in the most items and had the most puzzle parts to complete the puzzle is……..Ms. Smathers homeroom class. Congratulations! After spring break we will go on a field trip and package up all items that we have collected. I’m sure the Troops will greatly appreciate all you have done with sending them a small piece of home and letting them know that they are not forgotten. Thanks Again!
Rachel’s Challenge Chain Links Schedule: We will not be having a Chain Links meeting after school until the sports activities are completed. We strongly encourage students to attend the lunch time meetings instead.

On our media website, you can find a link to the new list and a document which breaks down the Battle books by sub genre. Each team will have a Battle of the Books team next year, and we plan to kick it up a notch. Prepare for the literary war!

Track Team - The boys and girls track teams faced Newport Middle yesterday. The results of the meet are not available at this time. The meet was highlighted by Steven Tulevech's new school record of 5:17 in the mile run. Practice and pictures will be today. Next meet will be the conference championship meet at Croatan High School on May 4.

Sports Pictures - Sports Pictures will be taken today, Thursday, April 21st after school for the following teams:
Girls golf 3:15, Softball 3:30, Baseball 3:45 and Track at 4:00 pm. ONLY ONE team photo will be taken for the track team.
Rachel’s Challenge Chain Links Schedule: We will not be having a Chain Links meeting after school until the sports activities are completed. We strongly encourage students to attend the lunch time meetings instead.

Book Fair Carnival begins began on Thursday, April 14 and runs through homeroom today, April 20. Battle of the Books 2012 will be included in the fair items as well as some brand new hits.

Talent Show – The Talent Show on Friday afternoon was a Huge Success. The talent of our students was just TOO MUCH!!!! What made it so great was all 13 of our participants were super talented and fun-loving students!!! Morehead Middle ROCKS! Thanks again to all of you who made the show possible!!!
A special congratulations to our 2nd place runner up – Shayla Whipple, the 1st runner up – Carson Davis, and the winners are – Jayson Sanchez and Will Whitehurst! The Glee Club did and excellent job singing and dancing the 80”s dance party – great job!

Talent Show – The Talent Show on Friday afternoon was a Huge Success. The talent of our students was just TOO MUCH!!!! What made it so great was all 13 of our participants were super talented and fun-loving students!!! Morehead Middle ROCKS! Thanks again to all of you who made the show possible!!!
A special congratulations to our 2nd place runner up – Shayla Whipple, the 1st runner up – Carson Davis, and the winners are – Jayson Sanchez and Will Whitehurst! The Glee Club did and excellent job singing and dancing the 80”s dance party – great job!

Battle of the Books 2011-2012 list is out! Make way in your reading adventures for our new Battle of the Books titles, which include Rick Riordan's Red Pyramid. On our media website, you can find a link to the new list and a document which breaks down the Battle books by sub genre. Each team will have a Battle of the Books team next year, and we plan to kick it up a notch. Prepare for the literary war!
Book Fair Carnival begins began on Thursday, April 14 and runs through homeroom on April 20. Battle of the Books 2012 will be included in the fair items as well as some brand new hits.

Brad Sneeden Marine Science Academy – Students we encourage you to get your application now to apply for a week-long, fast-paced day camp from June 13-17. This is a wonderful opportunity. Each day will begin at 8 a.m. and end by 5 p.m. except on Friday when our day will end earlier. Applicants must be entering the 7th, 8th or 9th grade in the fall of 2011. Only 50 applicants will be accepted from Carteret County Public Schools.
Students who took part in the Academy last year are not eligible to apply this year.

Baseball – Our Boys baseball won 12 to 0. We had great pitching by Michael Tyndall and Jacob Smith. The Minutemen were lead at the plate by Hunter Garner, Jacob Smith, George Rose and Michael Tyndall. It was a great season. We want to thank the 8th graders for their hard work and dedication!
Softball – The Lady Minutemen put up a good fight yesterday but had a heart-breaking loss to Newport with a score of 6 to 4. Our softball team ended the season with a record of 5 and 5, the best in MCMS history!!!
Medieval Show – This Saturday, tomorrow, April 16th from 10:00 am - 12:00 noon the SCA, a medieval recreation group-Society for Creative Anachronism will be putting on a demo, RAIN or SHINE for the 6th graders but all MCMS students and parents are invited to attend. If weather is permitting it will be outside and if not permitting the demo will take place in the gym or band room. Mr. Rodney Woods, 8th grade Social Studies teacher is a member and he may make a special appearance in armor to fight for the honor and glory of MCMS! The demo will be on the MCMS soccer field in back of the school. This is a FREE performance and is open to our community so bring your family and friends to enjoy the demonstration of Medieval Drama.

NC STATE UNIVERSITY ENGINEERING SUMMER CAMP – NC State College of Engineering is partnering with Lenoir and Craven Community Colleges to offer two exciting, weeklong summer engineering day camps for middle school students (rising7th, 8th and 9th graders).
• June 20-24 Craven Community College in Havelock
• July 11-15 – Lenoir Community College in Kinston
Cost for the camp is $250 per student. Scholarships may be available for students with demonstrated financial need.

Brad Sneeden Marine Science Academy – Students we encourage you to get your application now to apply for a week-long, fast-paced day camp from June 13-17. This is a wonderful opportunity. Each day will begin at 8 a.m. and end by 5 p.m. except on Friday when our day will end earlier. Applicants must be entering the 7th, 8th or 9th grade in the fall of 2011. Only 50 applicants will be accepted from Carteret County Public Schools.
Students who took part in the Academy last year are not eligible to apply this year.

West Carteret High School Cheerleading Try-outs - There will be a short informational meeting for all interested 8th graders next Tuesday, April 19th at 3:30 in the West Carteret High School media center.
Sports Pictures - Sports Pictures will be taken on next Thursday, April 21st after school for the following teams:
Girls golf 3:15, Softball 3:30, Baseball 3:45 and Track at 4:00 pm. ONLY ONE team photo will be taken for the track team.
Track – Next track meet will be at Pamlico County Middle School on Monday, April 18th.
Baseball – We have a game today at Newport Middle School. Please release the team at 2:30.
Softball – The softball team will travel to Newport Middle School today. Please release the softball team at 2:30 today.
Softball away games - Parents, please plan to pick your student up from the school after away games around 6:30pm. Your player will call you as soon as the game is over to give you a more accurate time for that specific game (depending on how the teams play, the game time can vary greatly). Please make sure your student has a way to contact you and please anticipate this call when your student is away at a softball game. Away games are 4/12 and 4/14.

Medieval Show – This Saturday, April 16th from 10:00 am - 12:00 noon the SCA, a medieval recreation group-Society for Creative Anachronism will be putting on a demo, RAIN or SHINE for the 6th graders but all MCMS students and parents are invited to attend. If weather is permitting it will be outside and if not permitting the demo will take place in the gym or band room. Mr. Rodney Woods, 8th grade Social Studies teacher is a member and he may make a special appearance in armor to fight for the honor and glory of MCMS! The demo will be on the MCMS soccer field in back of the school. This is a FREE performance and is open to our community so bring your family and friends to enjoy the demonstration of Medieval Drama.
Rachel’s Challenge Chain Links Schedule: We will not be having a Chain Links meeting after school until the sports activities are completed. Students should attend the lunch meetings instead.

Battle of the Books 2011-2012 list is out! Make way in your reading adventures for our new Battle of the Books titles, which include Rick Riordan's Red Pyramid. On our media website, you can find a link to the new list and a document which breaks down the Battle books by sub genre. Each team will have a Battle of the Books team next year, and we plan to kick it up a notch. Prepare for the literary war!
Book Fair Carnival begins today, Thursday, April 14 and runs through homeroom on April 20. Battle of the Books 2012 will be included in the fair items as well as some brand new hits.

NC STATE UNIVERSITY ENGINEERING SUMMER CAMP – NC State College of Engineering is partnering with Lenoir and Craven Community Colleges to offer two exciting, weeklong summer engineering day camps for middle school students (rising7th, 8th and 9th graders).
• June 20-24 Craven Community College in Havelock
• July 11-15 – Lenoir Community College in Kinston
Cost for the camp is $250 per student. Scholarships may be available for students with demonstrated financial need.

NC STATE UNIVERSITY ENGINEERING SUMMER CAMP – NC State College of Engineering is partnering with Lenoir and Craven Community Colleges to offer two exciting, weeklong summer engineering day camps for middle school students (rising7th, 8th and 9th graders).
• June 20-24 Craven Community College in Havelock
• July 11-15 – Lenoir Community College in Kinston
Cost for the camp is $250 per student. Scholarships may be available for students with demonstrated financial need.

Brad Sneeden Marine Science Academy – Students we encourage you to get your application now to apply for a week-long, fast-paced day camp from June 13-17. This is a wonderful opportunity. Each day will begin at 8 a.m. and end by 5 p.m. except on Friday when our day will end earlier. Applicants must be entering the 7th, 8th or 9th grade in the fall of 2011. Only 50 applicants will be accepted from Carteret County Public Schools.
Students who took part in the Academy last year are not eligible to apply this year.

West Carteret High School Cheerleading Try-outs - There will be a short informational meeting for all interested 8th graders next Tuesday, April 19th at 3:30 in the West Carteret High School media center.
Sports Pictures - Sports Pictures will be taken on Thursday, April 21st after school for the following teams:
Girls golf 3:15, Softball 3:30, Baseball 3:45 and Track at 4:00 pm. ONLY ONE team photo will be taken for the track team.
Track – Track game again today, Wednesday April 13 @ Broad Creek Middle.
Baseball – The Minutemen lost their baseball game yesterday to Broad Creek Middle with a score of 11-1. We have a game today against Down East at 4:00. Please dismiss the players at 1:45.
Softball – The Lady Minutemen won their game yesterday against Broad Creek Middle with a score of 13-8. The makeup day for our cancelled Down East game last week will be played today, Wednesday, April 13th.
Softball away games - Parents, please plan to pick your student up from the school after away games around 6:30pm. Your player will call you as soon as the game is over to give you a more accurate time for that specific game (depending on how the teams play, the game time can vary greatly). Please make sure your student has a way to contact you and please anticipate this call when your student is away at a softball game. Away games are 4/12 and 4/14.

Medieval Show – This Saturday, April 16th from 10:00 am - 12:00 noon the SCA, a medieval recreation group-Society for Creative Anachronism will be putting on a demo, RAIN or SHINE for the 6th graders but all MCMS students and parents are invited to attend. If weather is permitting it will be outside and if not permitting the demo will take place in the gym or band room. Mr. Rodney Woods, 8th grade Social Studies teacher is a member and he may make a special appearance in armor to fight for the honor and glory of MCMS! The demo will be on the MCMS soccer field in back of the school. This is a FREE performance and is open to our community so bring your family and friends to enjoy the demonstration of Medieval Drama.
Rachel’s Challenge Chain Links Schedule: We will not be having a Chain Links meeting after school until the sports activities are completed. Students should attend the lunch meetings instead.

On our media website, you can find a link to the new list and a document which breaks down the Battle books by sub genre. Each team will have a Battle of the Books team next year, and we plan to kick it up a notch. Prepare for the literary war!
Book Fair Carnival arrives today, Wednesday, April 13 and runs through homeroom on April 20. Battle of the Books 2012 will be included in the fair items as well as some brand new hits. West Carteret High School Cheerleading Try-outs - There will be a short informational meeting for all interested 8th graders next Tuesday, April 19th at 3:30 in the West Carteret High School media center.
Sports Pictures - Sports Pictures will be taken on Thursday, April 21st after school for the following teams:
Girls golf 3:15, Softball 3:30,Baseball 3:45 and Track at 4:00 pm. ONLY ONE team photo will be taken for the track team.
Track - Meet today at ECHS @ 4:00 and Track Meet tomorrow, Wednesday @ Broad Creek.
Baseball - Next game is today, Tuesday, April 12th at Broad Creek Middle School @ 4:00.

The makeup day for our cancelled Down East game last week will be played on Wednesday, April 13th.
Softball away games - Parents, please plan to pick your student up from the school after away games around 6:30pm. Your player will call you as soon as the game is over to give you a more accurate time for that specific game (depending on how the teams play, the game time can vary greatly). Please make sure your student has a way to contact you and please anticipate this call when your student is away at a softball game. Away games are 4/12 and 4/14.

Medieval Show – On Saturday, April 16th from 10:00 am - 12:00 noon the SCA, a medieval recreation group-Society for Creative Anachronism will be putting on a demo, RAIN or SHINE for the 6th graders but all MCMS students and parents are invited to attend. If weather is permitting it will be outside and if not permitting the demo will take place in the gym or band room. Mr. Rodney Woods, 8th grade Social Studies teacher is a member and he may make a special appearance in armor to fight for the honor and glory of MCMS! The demo will be on the MCMS soccer field in back of the school. This is a FREE performance and is open to our community so bring your family and friends to enjoy the demonstration of Medieval Drama.
Rachel’s Challenge Chain Links Schedule: We will not be having a Chain Links meeting after school until the sports activities are completed. Students should attend the lunch meetings instead.

Battle of the Books 2011-2012 list is out! Make way in your reading adventures for our new Battle of the Books titles, which include Rick Riordan's Red Pyramid. On our media website, you can find a link to the new list and a document which breaks down the Battle books by sub genre. Each team will have a Battle of the Books team next year, and we plan to kick it up a notch. Prepare for the literary war!
Book Fair Carnival arrives Wednesday, April 13 and runs through homeroom on April 20. Battle of the Books 2012 will be included in the fair items as well as some brand new hits. Letters went home on Friday, March 11 to inform families of her visit and give the option for pre-ordering personalized copies of her novel Guardian Spirit. Ms. Byrd will actually create a short story with each grade level incorporating the National Library theme "Celebrating Stories". NC STATE UNIVERSITY ENGINEERING SUMMER CAMP – NC State College of Engineering is partnering with Lenoir and Craven Community Colleges to offer two exciting, weeklong summer engineering day camps for middle school students (rising7th, 8th and 9th graders).

• July 11-15 – Lenoir Community College in Kinston
Cost for the camp is $250 per student. Scholarships may be available for students with demonstrated financial need.

Brad Sneeden Marine Science Academy – Students we encourage you to get your application now to apply for a week-long, fast-paced day camp from June 13-17. This is a wonderful opportunity. Each day will begin at 8 a.m. and end by 5 p.m. except on Friday when our day will end earlier. Applicants must be entering the 7th, 8th or 9th grade in the fall of 2011. Only 50 applicants will be accepted from Carteret County Public Schools.
Students who took part in the Academy last year are not eligible to apply this year.

NEED Your HELP/Parent Teacher Organization Officers /PTO - Please think about becoming a member of the Morehead Middle School PTO by holding an office for the 2011-2012 PTO school year. Brad Sneeden Marine Science Academy – Students we encourage you to get your application now to apply for a week-long, fast-paced day camp from June 13-17. This is a wonderful opportunity. Each day will begin at 8 a.m. and end by 5 p.m. except on Friday when our day will end earlier. Applicants must be entering the 7th, 8th or 9th grade in the fall of 2011. Only 50 applicants will be accepted from Carteret County Public Schools.
Students who took part in the Academy last year are not eligible to apply this year.
The applications consist of a Completed 2-page application; an Essay and Names of two people completing recommendations. For more information on this Academy you may contact

*All the boys and girls relay teams won first place. Great job! Practice Monday until 4pm.

Baseball – The boys baseball team won 12-6 against Beaufort Middle School yesterday afternoon. Great pitching was done by Garrett Young, Braedon Nelson, Jacob Smith, and Rodney Mitchell. The Minutemen were led at the plate by Garrett Young, Hunter Garner, and Jacob Smith. Great Game Guys!
Softball – The softball team defeated Beaufort Middle School 11-7 yesterday afternoon. The Lady Minutemen were led at the plate by Colleen Taylor and had great pitching by Sam Glasgow. The softball team is off to a great start and is 4-3 for the year!
The makeup day for our cancelled Down East game last week will be played on Wednesday, April 13th.
Softball away games - Parents, please plan to pick your student up from the school after away games around 6:30pm. Your player will call you as soon as the game is over to give you a more accurate time for that specific game (depending on how the teams play, the game time can vary greatly). Please make sure your student has a way to contact you and please anticipate this call when your student is away at a softball game. Away games are 4/12 and 4/14.

Medieval Show – On Saturday, April 16th from 10:00 am - 12:00 noon the SCA, a medieval recreation group-Society for Creative Anachronism will be putting on a demo, RAIN or SHINE for the 6th graders but all MCMS students and parents are invited to attend. If weather is permitting it will be outside and if not permitting the demo will take place in the gym or band room. Mr. Rodney Woods, 8th grade Social Studies teacher is a member and he may make a special appearance in armor to fight for the honor and glory of MCMS! The demo will be on the MCMS soccer field in back of the school. This is a FREE performance and is open to our community so bring your family and friends to enjoy the demonstration of Medieval Drama.
Rachel’s Challenge Chain Links Schedule: These are the dates to remember for the Rachel's Challenge Chain Links meetings that are after school. They are from 3:00-4:00 in the cafeteria and they are always on Thursdays. Any cancelation will be announced in advance!
Next after school Rachel’s Challenge Chain Links meeting will be Thursday, April 21, May 5, May 19 and our last meeting will be June 2nd!

"Get Your Yearbook!” - Students - only a few days remain to order your yearbook. Extra order forms are available in the office if you have misplaced yours. All orders are due today, Friday, April 8.
No “Charge “on Lunch Account – Students are no longer able to charge on their lunch accounts. All students with negative lunch balances will be served peanut butter sandwiches rather than the main line. Students in need should see their counselor for assistance.
Media Mania News …. Don’t get caught without a BOOK!
Battle of the Books 2011-2012 list is out! Make way in your reading adventures for our new Battle of the Books titles, which include Rick Riordan's Red Pyramid. On our media website, you can find a link to the new list and a document which breaks down the Battle books by sub genre. Each team will have a Battle of the Books team next year, and we plan to kick it up a notch. Prepare for the literary war!
Book Fair Carnival arrives Wednesday, April 13 and runs through homeroom on April 20. Battle of the Books 2012 will be included in the fair items as well as some brand new hits. Don't miss out on the fun! Parents, if you are interested in volunteering during the fair, please contact Carole Keefer or Dega Lancaster.
• Sarah Martin Byrd, a North Carolinian author, will speak at our school to each grade level on Thursday, April 14. Letters went home on Friday, March 11 to inform families of her visit and give the option for pre-ordering personalized copies of her novel Guardian Spirit. Ms. Byrd will actually create a short story with each grade level incorporating the National Library theme "Celebrating Stories". NC STATE UNIVERSITY ENGINEERING SUMMER CAMP – NC State College of Engineering is partnering with Lenoir and Craven Community Colleges to offer two exciting, weeklong summer engineering day camps for middle school students (rising7th, 8th and 9th graders).
• June 20-24 Craven Community College in Havelock
• July 11-15 – Lenoir Community College in Kinston
Cost for the camp is $250 per student. Scholarships may be available for students with demonstrated financial need.

General Mills Box Tops Fundraiser – Attention Parents...You can make a difference! Collect Box Tops from participating General Mills and affiliates products and earn cash for MCMS!!!
Just clip the marked Box Top labels and send them in to MCMS with your student. Each top is worth 10 cents and it adds up fast!!! Also, please ask family and friends to collect the tops, earning extra money for school needs will be so easy! Remember, every Box Top label counts!!!
Lowe’s Food Gift Cards - Our PTO continues to sell Lowe's Food gift cards for $50 each. Our school profits 6% on each card sold. Please plan to purchase a Lowe's gift card by writing a check to MCMS PTO or paying cash. This is a great way to support our school. Parents may come into the office to purchase cards at any time.
Bojangle Gift Cards - MCMS PTO is also selling Bojangle Cards for $5 each. They are a $15 value at Bojangles. Bojangle cards are available in our office.
