2010 Rising 9th Grade Timeline – Here is a date to remember…….April 30th
9am-12:30 pm - Rising 9th Grade Student Shadow Program at WCHS
Sports Team Picture Schedule -
1. Picture day is Friday, April 30, 2010 after school.
2. Sports fliers should go home with the students by Wednesday afternoon.
3. Teams involved are:
a. Girls’ soccer-Melody Henning 3:15
b. Softball-Rachel Dodgens 3:30
c. Baseball-Russell Hults 3:45
d. Girls’ golf-Larry Lewis 4:00
e. Track-Lewis/DeGuile 4:15
4. Teams should please have their team in uniform and be ready before your scheduled time.

Cheerleaders Tryouts - Attention any girl interested in trying out for the 2010-2011 cheerleading squad: The cheerleading tryout clinic will be held from Monday, April 26th to Friday, April 30th from 4:30 to 6:30 each day. Take home a flier today!
Any girl who is planning on trying out for MCMS cheerleading: Remember that all of your teacher feedback forms and your application are due to Mrs. Hopkins by this Friday. The cheerleading tryout clinic begins on Monday, April 26th at 4:30. You will only be eligible to participate if you have all of your paperwork turned in.
Any 8th grade cheerleader who is interested in helping out with cheerleading tryouts needs to attend a meeting with Mrs. Hopkins after school on Tuesday, April 26th from 3:00 to 3:30.
West Carteret Cheerleaders for Rising 9th Graders -
There will be a short informational meeting for any girls interested in cheerleading at West Carteret High School next year on Wednesday, May 5th. The meeting will be held at 3:45 in the WCHS library.
Track – The boys and girls track teams finished 2nd yesterday in a tri meet against Broad Creek and Pamlico Middle Schools. Some of the highlights for the MCMS squad included new school records set by John Michael Harris in the 800m. He also missed the school record in the mile by 3 seconds. The boys 4 by 200 relay team of Marvin Morris, Wood Mancuso, Kuwain Green, and John Michael Harris were victorious and set a new record in the process. Blake Dodge continued to set the track on fire winning the High Jump, 100m and 800m runs. Maddie fisher won the 1 mile run. Marvin Morris also won the high jump and the 400m run in which he missed the school record by .5 seconds. Great job! Practice today until 4:15. Next meet is Monday at Pamlico Middle School.
Baseball – The Baseball Team played a double header against Arapahoe Charter School on Tuesday. MCMS won the first game 10 - 0, and they won the second game 12 - 0.
MCMS played Beaufort on Wednesday and won 10 -5. So far this season the baseball team has a win/loss record of 9 -0. Our next game may be at Broad Creek Middle School on Tuesday, April 27.
Softball – The girls played a good game yesterday, but lost 13 to 2. Glasgow pitched some great strikes! Taylor's catching was fantastic, throwing her helmet off at the hit of a foul! Lots of great fielding by all the players! Nice sliding ladies, way to steal those bases!

The Brad Sneeden Marine Science Academy - Applications are now available in the front office for the Brad Sneeden Marine Science Academy that will be a week long camp from June 14-18. The Theme this year will be Careers. Deadline for applications are due by Friday, April 23, 2010. There will be fifty (50) applicants accepted from the Carteret County Public School System. Applicants must be entering the 7th, 8th, or 9th grade in the fall of 2010. Students who took part in the Academy last year are not eligible to apply this year.

N C State University Engineering Summer Programs – The NC State College of Engineering is partnering with Lenoir and Craven Community Colleges to offer two exciting, weeklong summer engineering day camps for middle school students (rising seventh, eighth, and ninth graders).
Craven Community College, in Havelock will be from June 21-25. There are still openings and the application deadline has been was extended again through April 26th. 2010 Youth Entrepreneurship Camp – Open to rising 7th graders through rising 9th graders:
This camp is sponsored by Carteret Community College and NC REAL Enterprises and will run from June 21-25, 2010 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM. For more information stop by the school office and pick up your application or contact Betsy DeCampo at (252) 222-6116.
Birdhouses for Sale - Buy a birdhouse and help our feathered friends and our school! Students from Ms. Lawrence and Mr. Butlers classes are making and selling birdhouses in order to raise funds for classroom materials and supplies. Not only are our students learning a hands-on approach to building but they are giving our feathered friends a nice home and raising money for their classrooms. The bird houses are on sale for $20. If you are interested in purchasing a bird house, please contact Ms. Lawrence or Mr. Butler at the school by calling 252-726-1126.
Bright Ideas – What a Bright idea! The MCMS Office is selling CFLs (Compact fluorescent light bulbs) for $2.00 each. Most stores sell them for $4.00 to $6.00 each, so this is a quite a deal. We have 75 and 100 watt bulbs available, and 100% of the funds from this fundraiser stay with MCMS. Please see any staff member in the office to purchase your CFLs today!
Earn $$$ for MCMS - A big thank you to everyone who linked their Harris Teeter VIC card to MCMS last year! Please remember to link your Harris Teeter VIC cards to MCMS again for this school year as well. All you have to do is go to www.harristeeter.com and select the Community Tab, then Together In Education (on the left side). At the bottom of that page click on Link your VIC card to your school now! Just fill out the next page, entering our school code of 7643, and you’re all set to help MCMS earn much needed funds for the 2009-2010 school year. Lowe’s Gift Cards – Lowe’s Gift Cards are now available to purchase in the school office for $50.00. Morehead Middle School receives 10% of this when one is purchased from our school. Come by the office soon and get yours!
