2010 Rising 9th Grade Timeline – Here is a date to remember……….
April 30th 9am-12:30 pm Rising 9th Grade Student Shadow Program at WCHS
Early Release – Tomorrow, Friday, April 2nd school will dismiss at 12:00 noon to begin our Spring Break! School will be out next week from Monday, April 5th thru Friday, April 9th. School will be back in session on Monday, April 12th. Have a safe, relaxing, and wonderful vacation!
PTO Meeting - On Tuesday, April 13th at 8:15 am outside the school cafeteria we will have our next PTO meeting. We will be talking about 2010-2011, fall fundraiser, etc... Bring ideas, looking for volunteers, etc... Hope to see you there!
Band Announcements –
- The MCMS Band Cookie Dough Fundraiser orders and all monies are due TODAY, Thursday, April 1st.
- 6th Grade will have full band rehearsal today, Thursday, April 1st during encore classes.
- Permission slips for the 7th grade Spring Band Trip to Busch Gardens is due today, Thursday.
- Any band student interested in participation in the Solo and Ensemble Festival in May must turn in a permission slip and $10 by today, Thursday.
Cheerleaders - Cheerleaders, our end of the year party is today, Thursday, April 1, from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at The Watermark on the beach. The cost is $10 and covers salad, choice of shrimp, steak, or chicken tenders, and dessert.
Dress up for this celebration and bring your cameras. See Mrs. Lancaster for more details. Turn in your uniform (skirt, top, and poms) to Mrs. Lancaster this week.
Mrs. J. Lancaster’s 2010 Cake Bake-OFF - Mrs. J. Lancaster’s Family & Consumer Science Class had a cake-baking contest in her class on Wednesday. These cakes were judged in three categories. Congratulations to all to our wonderful students!
The Most Artistic Cake was #19 which was baked by Chris, Chase and Hunter. The Overall Best Cake was #18 baked by Kitty, Joseph, Shalena, and Emma.
The Cutest Cake was cake # 8 which was baked by Taylor, Whitley, Lexis, and Isaiah.

Baseball – Our Minutemen won 6-3 against Downeast yesterday afternoon at Smyrna. Great job Guys!
Our next home game will be at Swinson Park today, Thursday, April 1st against Newport Middle School @ 4:00 PM.
Come out and support our Minutemen!
Softball – The Lady Minutemen were defeated yesterday afternoon with a score of 23-0 in their game against Downeast. Girls’ we will get them next time!
Today, Thursday, we will have a home game right here at MCMS on the softball field behind the school at 4:00 PM.

Core Sound Waterfowl Museum & Heritage Center and Cape Lookout National Seashore Educational Summer Programs for rising 7th and 8th graders – The deadline for applications for these free summer programs will be due on this Friday, April 2nd. Please see your guidance counselor for more information on these summer programs TODAY! Time is running OUT!

The Brad Sneeden Marine Science Academy - Applications are now available in the front office for the Brad Sneeden Marine Science Academy that will be a week long camp from June 14-18. The Theme this year will be Careers. Deadline for applications are due by Friday, April 23, 2010. There will be fifty (50) applicants accepted from the Carteret County Public School System. Applicants must be entering the 7th, 8th, or 9th grade in the fall of 2010. Students who took part in the Academy last year are not eligible to apply this year.

Geography Bee – Steven Tulevech, 7th grade, will compete in the state level of the National Geographic Bee, sponsored by Google and Plum Creek. The State Bee will be held on Friday, April 9th at the J. E. Broyhill Civic Center in Lenoir. Good Luck, Steven!

Spring Book Fair - Get ready to PARTY with some brand new books. Our spring book fair will begin on Thursday, April 15 and run through Tuesday, April 20. Preview information will go home this week during library time. Parents, if you are interested in volunteering, please contact Dega Lancaster in the media center or Chris Leary. Teacher sneak peak is Wednesday, April 14 from 3:00 - 4:15.
N C State University Engineering Summer Programs – The NC State College of Engineering is partnering with Lenoir and Craven Community Colleges to offer two exciting, weeklong summer engineering day camps for middle school students (rising seventh, eighth, and ninth graders).
Craven Community College, in Havelock will be from June 21-25. The application process will run through April 9th. For more information, contact Bill Fortney or Susan Price at (252) 520-9597 or wbfortne@ncsu.edu .
2010 Youth Entrepreneurship Camp – Open to rising 7th graders through rising 9th graders:
This camp is sponsored by Carteret Community College and NC REAL Enterprises and will run from June 21-25, 2010 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM. For more information stop by the school office and pick up your application or contact Betsy DeCampo at (252) 222-6116.
Birdhouses for Sale - Buy a birdhouse and help our feathered friends and our school! Students from Ms. Lawrence and Mr. Butlers classes are making and selling birdhouses in order to raise funds for classroom materials and supplies. Not only are our students learning a hands-on approach to building but they are giving our feathered friends a nice home and raising money for their classrooms. The bird houses are on sale for $20. If you are interested in purchasing a bird house, please contact Ms. Lawrence or Mr. Butler at the school by calling 252-726-1126.
Bright Ideas – What a Bright idea! The MCMS Office is selling CFLs (Compact fluorescent light bulbs) for $2.00 each. Most stores sell them for $4.00 to $6.00 each, so this is a quite a deal. We have 75 and 100 watt bulbs available, and 100% of the funds from this fundraiser stay with MCMS. Please see any staff member in the office to purchase your CFLs today!
Earn $$$ for MCMS - A big thank you to everyone who linked their Harris Teeter VIC card to MCMS last year! Please remember to link your Harris Teeter VIC cards to MCMS again for this school year as well. All you have to do is go to www.harristeeter.com and select the Community Tab, then Together In Education (on the left side). At the bottom of that page click on Link your VIC card to your school now! Just fill out the next page, entering our school code of 7643, and you’re all set to help MCMS earn much needed funds for the 2009-2010 school year. Lowe’s Gift Cards – Lowe’s Gift Cards are now available to purchase in the school office for $50.00. Morehead Middle receives 10% of this when one is purchased from our school. Come by the office soon and get yours!
