2010 Rising 9^th Grade Timeline – Here is a date to remember……….

Spring Pictures – On today, Thursday, April 15^th we will be taking individual spring pictures during your lunch periods in the cafeteria lobby. Pictures packets have been sent home. We have more packets available in the front office.

Band Announcements – (updated on Monday, April 15, 2010)

· There will be an informational meeting for all girls interested in trying out for the West Carteret High School Color Guard today, Thursday, April 15^th at 3:30 pm in the West Carteret High School Band room. This very high profile and competitive group of girls not only are consistent winners in North Carolina, but they have won many regional Winter Guard championships as well as being named a National finalist.

If you are a good academic students, who wants to get dance credit in an elective class, this is a place for you. The WCHS Colorguard is open to ALL upcoming 9^th graders, not just band members.

Quality students + A Quality Program + Students who care = the West Carteret High School Marching Patriots.

· The MCMS Percussion Ensemble will rehearse today after school until 4:00 pm.

· Percussion Ensemble students should arrive to school tomorrow, Friday wearing their band t-shirts for their performance in the 5^th grade Recruitment Concert.

· Any Student interested in jazz band should meet in the band room tomorrow, Friday after school until 4:30 for our first rehearsal. We will meet every Friday until 4:30 pm.

Cheerleaders Meeting - Attention any girl interested in trying out for the 2010-2011 cheerleading squad: There will be a mandatory meeting today, Thursday, April 15th from 3:15 to 3:45 in Mrs. Hopkins' room (RM 27). At the meeting, we will go over tryout expectations and procedures and provide you with other important information. The cheerleading tryout clinic will be held from Monday, April 26th to Friday, April 30th from 4:30 to 6:30 each day. Take home a flier today!

Baseball – Our next game will be a doubleheader, a home game at Swinson Park on Tuesday, April 20^th. First game begins at 3:30 pm. Come out and support out Mighty Minutemen!

Softball – The Lady Minutemen will play a doubleheader on Tuesday, April 20^th beginning at 3:30 right here at MCMS on the softball field. Hope to see you here!

The Brad Sneeden Marine Science Academy - Applications are now available in the front office for the Brad Sneeden Marine Science Academy that will be a week long camp from June 14-18. The Theme this year will be Careers. Deadline for applications are due by Friday, April 23, 2010. There will be fifty (50) applicants accepted from the Carteret County Public School System. Applicants must be entering the 7^th, 8^th, or 9^th grade in the fall of 2010. Students who took part in the Academy last year are not eligible to apply this year.

Core Sound Waterfowl Museum & Heritage Center and Cape Lookout National Seashore Educational Summer Programs for rising 7^th and 8^th graders – The deadline for applications for these free summer programs has been extended through this Friday, April 16^th, 2010. Please see your guidance counselor for more information on these summer programs TODAY! Time is running Out! N C State University Engineering Summer Programs – The NC State College of Engineering is partnering with Lenoir and Craven Community Colleges to offer two exciting, weeklong summer engineering day camps for middle school students (rising seventh, eighth, and ninth graders).

Craven Community College, in Havelock will be from June 21-25. The application process was extended through April 19^th. 2010 Youth Entrepreneurship Camp – Open to rising 7^th graders through rising 9^th graders:

This camp is sponsored by Carteret Community College and NC REAL Enterprises and will run from June 21-25, 2010 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM. For more information stop by the school office and pick up your application or contact Betsy DeCampo at (252) 222-6116.

Birdhouses for Sale - Buy a birdhouse and help our feathered friends and our school! Students from Ms. Lawrence and Mr. Butlers classes are making and selling birdhouses in order to raise funds for classroom materials and supplies. Not only are our students learning a hands-on approach to building but they are giving our feathered friends a nice home and raising money for their classrooms. The bird houses are on sale for $20. If you are interested in purchasing a bird house, please contact Ms. Lawrence or Mr. Butler at the school by calling 252-726-1126.

Bright Ideas – What a Bright idea! The MCMS Office is selling CFLs (Compact fluorescent light bulbs) for $2.00 each. Most stores sell them for $4.00 to $6.00 each, so this is a quite a deal. We have 75 and 100 watt bulbs available, and 100% of the funds from this fundraiser stay with MCMS. Please see any staff member in the office to purchase your CFLs today!

Earn $$$ for MCMS - A big thank you to everyone who linked their Harris Teeter VIC card to MCMS last year! Please remember to link your Harris Teeter VIC cards to MCMS again for this school year as well. All you have to do is go to www.harristeeter.com and select the Community Tab, then Together In Education (on the left side). At the bottom of that page click on Link your VIC card to your school now! Just fill out the next page, entering our school code of 7643, and you’re all set to help MCMS earn much needed funds for the 2009-2010 school year. Lowe’s Gift Cards – Lowe’s Gift Cards are now available to purchase in the school office for $50.00. Morehead Middle School receives 10% of this when one is purchased from our school. Come by the office soon and get yours!
