Athletic Survey
Please visit our school website and fill out a survey that will help us prioritize the needs of MCMS' athletic program. The survey should take less than 5 minutes and will run until Friday, March 5.

The Brad Sneeden Marine Science Academy - Applications are now available in the front office for the Brad Sneeden Marine Science Academy that will be a week long camp from June 14-18. The Theme this year will be Careers. Deadline for applications are due by Friday, April 23, 2010. There will be fifty (50) applicants accepted from the Carteret County Public School System. Applicants must be entering the 7th, 8th, or 9th grade in the fall of 2010. Students who took part in the Academy last year are not eligible to apply this year.
Stop by the office for more information and your three page application.

Report Cards – MCMS Reports Cards will go home with students on Wednesday, March 10, 2010.

Girls’ Basketball Players - Girls’ basketball players please make sure your uniforms are turned in to Mrs. Romph.

BAND ANNOUCEMENTS
* Congratulations to our 7th and 8th grade bands who participated in the Eastern District Middle School Band Festival yesterday. Both groups received Excellent ratings on their stage performance and Superior ratings in sight-reading, resulting in overall Excellent ratings for both groups. We are very proud of their progress and accomplishments. Mr. Fye and Mr. Wright would like to thank all of our students for their hard work while preparing for Festival. Thanks also go out to all of our wonderful chaperones who traveled with us on our trip.
* The MCMS Percussion Ensemble will rehearse on Friday after school until 5:00 pm.
* The MCMS Percussion Ensemble looks forward to another strong performance at our next competition at Havelock High School on Saturday March 13.

Summer Volleyball Camp – Any 6th or 7th grade girl interested in going to a summer volleyball camp, please see Mr. Lewis or Miss Savage for details.
Yearbook Sales – Yearbooks are on sale until Friday, March 26th for $25. Only 15 school days left to purchase your yearbook!
If you do not remember whether or not you ordered a yearbook, ask your homeroom teacher to check the spreadsheet that Mrs. Piner emailed to them.
Only a few extra yearbooks will be ordered for purchase in June. Make sure you have reserved a copy by ordering by March 26th.

Yearbook Staff – The Yearbook staff will meet today until 4:00 pm.

Birdhouses for Sale - Buy a birdhouse and help our feathered friends and our school! Students from Ms. Lawrence and Mr. Butlers classes are making and selling birdhouses in order to raise funds for classroom materials and supplies. Not only are our students learning a hands-on approach to building but they are giving our feathered friends a nice home and raising money for their classrooms. The bird houses are on sale for $20. If you are interested in purchasing a bird house, please contact Ms. Lawrence or Mr. Butler at the school by calling 252-726-1126.

Radical Readers –
Warrior Heir Committee
* Sixth grade War of the Roses event will run from 2:00-3:00 pm on Friday, March 5th, 2010. There are a few slots left for the White Rose & Red Rose Teams. If you want to play and did not fill out an application, talk to your team teachers. You must be in good PBS standing. We will need 6th grade staff to assist.

* 8th Grade PBS Warrior Heir Events... 11:30–12:30 and 7th Grade will be from 1:00- 2:00 pm on Friday, March 5th. We will have several 3v3 and 4v4 tournaments going on that you and your buddies can sign up for. If you are in good PBS standing and want to play, you sign up as you enter the field. Start talking with your friends to decide who you want to play with and against for you version of the Roses War.
Popcorn is available for all who make PBS Celebrations! You may bring your own bottled water or you may purchase a soft drink for a dollar. Other concession items will be available for purchase.
Students will play in tennis shoes - no cleats, no shin guards to ensure equal and safe playing.

* Reminder: News Crew, Media and Tech Internship Applications are due today (3-4-10). They are available at lunch and have been since Monday. Return applications to the media center.

Battle of the Books Team

Bright Ideas – What a Bright idea! The MCMS Office is selling CFLs (Compact fluorescent light bulbs) for $2.00 each. Most stores sell them for $4.00 to $6.00 each, so this is a quite a deal. We have 75 and 100 watt bulbs available, and 100% of the funds from this fundraiser stay with MCMS. Please see any staff member in the office to purchase your CFLs today!

Earn $$$ for MCMS - A big thank you to everyone who linked their Harris Teeter VIC card to MCMS last year! Please remember to link your Harris Teeter VIC cards to MCMS again for this school year as well. All you have to do is go to www.harristeeter.com and select the Community Tab, then Together In Education (on the left side). At the bottom of that page click on Link your VIC card to your school now! Just fill out the next page, entering our school code of 7643, and you’re all set to help MCMS earn much needed funds for the 2009-2010 school year. If you have any questions, please contact Lisa Brown in the office.

Lowe’s Gift Cards – Lowe’s Gift Cards are now available to purchase in the school office for $50.00. Morehead Middle receives 10% of this when one is purchased from our school. Come by the office soon and get yours!
