MCMS will have a prosperous 2009-2010 School Year.
Athletic Survey
Please visit our school website and fill out a survey that will help us prioritize the needs of MCMS' athletic program. The survey should take less than 5 minutes and will run until March 5.

The Brad Sneeden Marine Science Academy - Applications are now available in the front office for the Brad Sneeden Marine Science Academy that will be a week long camp from June 14-18. The Theme this year will be Careers. Deadline for applications are due by Friday, April 23, 2010. There will be fifty (50) applicants accepted from the Carteret County Public School System. Applicants must be entering the 7th, 8th, or 9th grade in the fall of 2010. Students who took part in the Academy last year are not eligible to apply this year.
Stop by the office for more information and your three page application.

Girls’ Basketball Players - Girls’ basketball players please turn in your uniforms to Mrs. Romph by Wednesday, March 3rd.

BAND ANNOUCEMENTS –
* The MCMS Percussion Ensemble is off to a great start this season with a tie for first place in their first competition. The Ensemble competed against 2 high school groups this weekend at Cary High School. We are proud of their accomplishment, and look forward to another strong performance at our next competition at Havelock High School on Saturday March 13.
* 7th and 8th grade band students will have a full band rehearsal on Tuesday during their encore class periods.
* Wednesday March 3, the 7th and 8th grade bands will travel to West Craven High School to participate in the Eastern District Music Performance Adjudication Festival. All 7th and 8th grade band students should arrive at school at the normal time dressed in their Concert Uniforms. We will depart the school around 9:30 am, and return around 6:00 pm.
* The MCMS Percussion Ensemble will rehearse on Friday after school until 5:00 pm.

Yearbook Sales - Yearbooks are on sale until Friday, March 26th for $25.
If you do not remember whether or not you ordered a yearbook, ask your homeroom teacher to check the spreadsheet that Mrs. Piner emailed to them.
Only a few extra yearbooks will be ordered for purchase in June. Make sure you have reserved a copy by ordering by March 26th.

Birdhouses for Sale - Buy a birdhouse and help our feathered friends and our school! Students from Ms. Lawrence and Mr. Butlers classes are making and selling birdhouses in order to raise funds for classroom materials and supplies. Not only are our students learning a hands-on approach to building but they are giving our feathered friends a nice home and raising money for their classrooms. The bird houses are on sale for $20. If you are interested in purchasing a bird house, please contact Ms. Lawrence or Mr. Butler at the school by calling 252-726-1126.

Radical Readers –
Warrior Heir Committee – The Warrior Heir Committee Yearbook picture will be taken after school on Wednesday, March 3rd.
Warrior Heir Committee will meet on Tuesday, March 2nd and on Wednesday, March 3rd until 4:30.
We may meet on Thursday March 4th if needed. Stay tuned!
* Sixth grade will have a War of the Roses event. It will run for the sixth grade from 2:00-3:00 pm on March 5th, 2010. We will need 6th grade staff to assist.
* 7th and 8th Grade PBS War... you will still have a PBS soccer/Warrior Heir themed PBS celebration. We will have several 3v3 and 4v4 tournaments going on that you and your buddies can sign up for... if you don't want to play, A- okay, you can still come and watch. Concessions will be available.
Speaking of concessions, the Warrior Heir committee will provide all participating in the PBS event with pop corn. You may bring your own bottled water or you may purchase a soft drink for a dollar. Other concession items will be available for purchase like other school events.

Media Mania News …. Don’t get caught without a BOOK!

Battle of the Books Team – Battle of the Books pictures will be taken today at 12:00. Be on time.

Bright Ideas – What a Bright idea! The MCMS Office is selling CFLs (Compact fluorescent light bulbs) for $2.00 each. Most stores sell them for $4.00 to $6.00 each, so this is a quite a deal. We have 75 and 100 watt bulbs available, and 100% of the funds from this fundraiser stay with MCMS. Please see any staff member in the office to purchase your CFLs today!

Earn $$$ for MCMS - A big thank you to everyone who linked their Harris Teeter VIC card to MCMS last year! Please remember to link your Harris Teeter VIC cards to MCMS again for this school year as well. All you have to do is go to www.harristeeter.com and select the Community Tab, then Together In Education (on the left side). At the bottom of that page click on Link your VIC card to your school now! Just fill out the next page, entering our school code of 7643, and you’re all set to help MCMS earn much needed funds for the 2009-2010 school year. Lowe’s Gift Cards – Lowe’s Gift Cards are now available to purchase in the school office for $50.00. Morehead Middle receives 10% of this when one is purchased from our school. Come by the office soon and get yours!
