MCMS will have a prosperous 2009-2010 School Year.
PTO Meeting – The MCMS March PTO meeting will be held at Texas Steakhouse on Thursday, March 11 at 6pm. Everyone is welcome for food, fellowship and to see the new fall fundraising items. We still need volunteers for PTO positions including fundraiser chairperson. Please call Robin Ruffin, PTO President, if any questions--725-7232
The Brad Sneeden Marine Science Academy - Applications are now available in the front office for the Brad Sneeden Marine Science Academy that will be a week long camp from June 14-18. The Theme this year will be Careers. Deadline for applications are due by Friday, April 23, 2010. There will be fifty (50) applicants accepted from the Carteret County Public School System. Applicants must be entering the 7th, 8th, or 9th grade in the fall of 2010. Students who took part in the Academy last year are not eligible to apply this year.

Odyssey of the Mind - Congratulations to the Morehead City Middle Schools Odyssey of the Mind for its win on Saturday. Our team placed FIRST!
The team's creative solution of the problem "Food Court," won it the top spot in its division. Team members created and presented a humorous performance in which a food item was accused of being unhealthy and had to defend itself among its food peers. Team members are 6th graders Kate Shurtleff, Blair Painter, and Elizabeth Williams, 7th graders Rebecca Cowell, Hannah Minter, and Elisa Murphy, and Kate's 4th grade sister, Megan. We're proud of you all! The team will now move on to compete in the state tournament.
Geography Bee – Congratulations to 7th grader Steven Tulevech, winner of our school wide Geography Bee. He has qualified to represent Morehead Middle and compete in the state level of the National Geographic Bee, sponsored by Google and Plum Creek. The State Bee will be held on Friday, April 9th at the J. E. Broyhill Civic Center in Lenoir. Good Luck, Steven!
Report Cards – MCMS Reports Cards will go home with students on Wednesday, March 10, 2010.
BAND ANNOUCEMENTS –
* The MCMS Percussion Ensemble looks forward to another strong performance at our next competition at Havelock High School on Saturday March 13.
Summer Volleyball Camp – Any 6th or 7th grade girl interested in going to a summer volleyball camp, please see Mr. Lewis or Miss Savage for details.
Yearbook Sales – Yearbooks are on sale until Friday, March 26th for $25. Only 13 school days left to purchase your yearbook!
If you do not remember whether or not you ordered a yearbook, ask your homeroom teacher to check the spreadsheet that Mrs. Piner emailed to them.
Only a few extra yearbooks will be ordered for purchase in June. Make sure you have reserved a copy by ordering by March 26th.
Yearbook Meeting – We will have a Yearbook meeting on Tuesday after school until 4:00!
Birdhouses for Sale - Buy a birdhouse and help our feathered friends and our school! Students from Ms. Lawrence and Mr. Butlers classes are making and selling birdhouses in order to raise funds for classroom materials and supplies. Not only are our students learning a hands-on approach to building but they are giving our feathered friends a nice home and raising money for their classrooms. The bird houses are on sale for $20. If you are interested in purchasing a bird house, please contact Ms. Lawrence or Mr. Butler at the school by calling 252-726-1126.

Battle of the Books Team – The Battle of the Books Team will meet every day this week from 12:00 to 1:00.
The Battle of the Book Competition is this Friday.
Bright Ideas – What a Bright idea! The MCMS Office is selling CFLs (Compact fluorescent light bulbs) for $2.00 each. Most stores sell them for $4.00 to $6.00 each, so this is a quite a deal. We have 75 and 100 watt bulbs available, and 100% of the funds from this fundraiser stay with MCMS. Please see any staff member in the office to purchase your CFLs today!
Earn $$$ for MCMS - A big thank you to everyone who linked their Harris Teeter VIC card to MCMS last year! Please remember to link your Harris Teeter VIC cards to MCMS again for this school year as well. All you have to do is go to www.harristeeter.com and select the Community Tab, then Together In Education (on the left side). At the bottom of that page click on Link your VIC card to your school now! Just fill out the next page, entering our school code of 7643, and you’re all set to help MCMS earn much needed funds for the 2009-2010 school year. If you have any questions, please contact Lisa Brown in the office.
Lowe’s Gift Cards – Lowe’s Gift Cards are now available to purchase in the school office for $50.00. Morehead Middle receives 10% of this when one is purchased from our school. Come by the office soon and get yours!
