Welcome Back Minutemen!
We are off to a wonderful start! Together this will be a prosperous 2011-2012 School Year!
PTO Meeting - Our next PTO meeting is Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 8:15 AM!
E-Grades - Many of you have asked about E-grades. This system of communication regarding your students’ grades has been and continues to be important to us. Due to scheduling challenges, we have had a delay in the implementation. We are hopeful that you will be able to access your students’ accounts within the next week. We will post information in our TC and our web page when we are officially up and running and appreciate your patience in the meantime.
Absences and Tardies - We’d also like to remind you of the importance of clearing absences and tardies when they occur. Students should bring notes to Ms. Becton in first class within a couple of days of the tardiness or absence. We thank you in advance for keeping our attendance records up to date.
Rachel’s Challenge - Rachel's Challenge will start next Friday, September 30th, and will run every other Friday during the students' lunch and AC time. The location will be announced at a later date.
Spirit Days at MCMS - MCMS is having "Spirit Days" on Sept. 22, Sept. 28, Oct.6, Oct. 18, and Nov. 7. Students we encourage you to show your school spirit by wearing red, white, and/or blue or an MCMS t-shirt on Spirit Days.
Make-up Days – Make-up days for the school days missed due to hurricane Irene will be on Monday, October 10th and Monday, December 19th. Monday, December 19th will be an early release day also. Students will be dismissed from school at 12:00 noon. Mark your calendars!
Retakes/Make-up Picture Day – On Thursday, September 29th Lifetouch will be here to take make-up pictures. Pictures will be taken during your lunchtime or AC time beginning at 11:30.
Sports Pictures Scheduled: October 21st beginning after school at 3:15 the following teams will take sport pictures:

Girls Soccer News – The girls soccer team tied the Bulldogs of Broad Creek 2-2 in the
rain! Goals were scored by Caroline Wagner and Kelsey Russell. Ruth VaBrady and Ruth Varner stood tall on defense to keep the scored tied.
Next home game tomorrow against Newport.
Parent and teachers help is always needed at our concession stands.

Boys Soccer Tryouts – Boys Soccer tryouts begin on Tuesday, October 11th at 3:15 on the back field behind MCMS. Must have a Copy of grades and sports physical MUST be in hand before they can tryout.
Football News –The Minutemen Football Team will travel to Newport Middle School today, Wednesday, September 21st. Game begins at 4:15 pm. Please dismiss the football players, managers at 2:30 on Wednesday for their away game at Newport.

OPEN GYM for Girls Volleyball – There will be Open Gym for girls Volleyball today, Wednesday, September 21 and Thursday the 22 beginning at 4:30 -6:00pm.
TRYOUTS: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, September 26, 27, and 28th from 4:30 to 6:00 pm.
Bring your Sports Physical, proof of insurance and water with you.
Be sure to see Ms. Sippel to get your name on the try out list.
Boys Golf Tryouts - Boys golf tryouts will begin on Monday, Sept. 26 at the Country Club of the Crystal Coast located in Pine Knoll Shores. Tryouts will start at 3:30 and end at 5:30.
All boys interested must have a current/complete physical and proof of insurance. There will be a meeting on Monday, September 19th in the health room after school. The meeting will last about 15 minutes. Please plan on having your ride pick you up by 3:30. You must attend the meeting or see Mr. Lewis if you plan on trying out.

The Book Fair and Beyond – We have reached 85% of our 300 book goal. Today, the book fair will be open through Academic Coaching. We will have last minute purchases during homeroom on Wednesday. Then, the book fair will return to Scholastic. If you have items on hold, they need to be purchased today. Our poster winners are Sean Mason, Lexi Boyd, Daniel Keefer, Brett Young, and Dalton Leemkuil. Our teacher winner is Nancy Piner with The Elements. Congrats! Book Fair...Game almost over.
