*8th Grade Band Performance - "MCMS 8th Grade Band will perform at West Carteret High School on Thursday, February 23 at 6:30 in preparation for their Music Performance Adjudication Concert on Wednesday, March 7 at North Side High School in Jacksonville, NC"
Come out and join us for a great evening of fine music!

Yearbook Meeting - "There will be a yearbook staff meeting on Thursday, February 23 from 3-4 pm."

Order your YEARBOOK - "It is time to order your yearbook. Follow the directions on the order form you get from your homeroom teacher. Orders can be turned in until April 13."

TRACK - Attention any 7th or 8th grader interested in running track, try-outs will begin Tuesday, March 20th behind our school from 3:05 to 4:30. You must have a current physical and insurance/waiver form in order to participate. If you have any questions please see Coach DeGiule or Coach Lewis.

West Carteret High School 8th Grade Open House - WCHS Open House for our 8th graders will be Tuesday, March 20th from 6-7.

Athletic Booster Club Meeting – We will have an Athletic Booster meeting on Monday, Feb. 27 @ 6:00
PM in cafe lobby.
BoxTops for Education – This Friday, February 24th will be the LAST collection of BoxTops for the current school year. The MCMS will provide breakfast for the top homeroom class. The individual student bringing in the most BoxTops will also be rewarded with a special treat. Collecting BoxTops is a simple way to raise funds and we encourage all families to participate.

Girls Basketball - There will be a brief meeting for all members of this years girl's basketball team right after school today, Wednesday in the health room. It will only last about 10 minutes and girls should have a ride planned to pick them up for no later than 3:10.

Quiz Bowl News – Meetings will take place every Wednesday from 3:00 to 3:45 thru April 2nd if not cancelled beforehand.

Wrestlers - All wrestlers need to have their singlets and headgear washed and returned to Coach Woods by Friday Feb. 24th.

Spring Photos – Individual Spring photos will be taking tomorrow, Thursday, Feb. 23 during your scheduled lunch period. Please bring your picture order form and payment on the day on the day pictures are taken. Pictures can be pre-ordered online at payments.lifetouch.com
Sport Picture Day – Sports pictures will also be taken tomorrow, Thursday, February 23rd after school for the following teams:
Girl's basketball 3:15
Boy's basketball 3:30
Wrestling 3:45

BASEBALL/SOFTBALL – Our 1st baseball and softball game will be a home game on Tuesday, March 6th.

Media Mania News …. Don’t get caught without a BOOK!
Battle of the Books – BOB continues to soar to the top. 86% proficient and Team A won the match last Thursday. We have practice Wednesday and Thursday until 4:30. Our competition is on this Friday, February 24 at West Carteret High Carteret. Members need to pay $15 fee to receive t-shirt and cover field trip expenses in order to participate.

Morehead City Little League Softball - Morehead City Little League softball is taking registrations for girls aged 6-16. Play in a local league! Newport Girls Softball – Come and Join the FUN!
How: Registration will be held Friday nights from 5-7 pm and Saturdays from 2-4 pm at the Newport Girls Softball Fields throughout the month of February (Behind NES)
Age: Open to all girls ages 5-18
Cost: $50.00 per Child

*2012 Brad Sneeden Marine Science Academy –
The 2012 Brad Sneeden Marine Science Academy applications for all rising 7th, 8th, and 9th grader
are now in the front office of our school and you can also get copies of the application on line at www.carteretcountyschools.org.
Tuition is $185.00; however, a number of partial scholarships are available.
Please help us fill the Marine Science Academy with students ready for an exciting, enriching week.
Applications are due by April 27th, 2012.

*Summer Middle School Engineering Camp
The NC State College of Engineering and Craven Community College will offer an exciting, weeklong summer day camp this June 25 – June 29 for middle school students (rising 7th, 8th and 9th graders) at Havelock campus of Craven Community College.
Cost for the camp is $250 per student. Scholarships may be available for students with demonstrated financial need.
The application process will be open until April 17. To apply, go to www.engr.ncsu.edu/mes and follow the “Explore” link for the Havelock Middle School Camp.

Lost and Found Items – Parents, there is now a link on the MCMS web page that allows you to check “Lost and Found” items that have been collected. We encourage you to collect your valuable items before we donate to charity organizations. The lost and found list is updated each Friday.
Box Tops for Education – Box Tops is all about the difference 1 can make. This year our goal is to raise money for materials and programs to benefit our students.
The next collection will be in February, so keep clipping those Box tops and Thank you!
