PTO MEETING - Our next PTO meeting today, Tuesday, February 14th at 8:15AM.
Proctors Needed - Proctors are needed to assist with Access Testing. Please contact Lori McNeil or one of the counselors at 726-1126 if you are free and available on this date. We would love to have you. We would be grateful for your time on Wednesday, February 15, from 9-10:30am.
BoxTops for Education - Friday, February 24th will be the last collection of BoxTops for the current school year. The MCMS will provide breakfast for the top homeroom class. The individual student bringing in the most BoxTops will also be rewarded with a special treat. Collecting BoxTops is a simple way to raise funds and we encourage all families to participate.
Quiz Bowl News – Meetings will take place every Wednesday from 3:00 to 3:45 thru April 2nd if not cancelled beforehand.
Girls Golf - Tryouts for girls golf will take place on Thursday, February 16th. Tryouts will take place behind the school on the athletic field and will last until 4:30. You must have proof of insurance and completed/updated physical.
Baseball/Softball Skill Sessions – Baseball/Softball skill sessions will be again today, Tuesday, February 14th from 3:30-5:00 on our Soccer Field. The skill sessions will be open to everyone (all grades, boys and girls) interested in improving their baseball/softball skills.
Baseball/Softball gloves and tennis shoes are required.
BASEBALL TRYOUTS – Baseball tryouts will be on Thursday and Friday, February16th and 17th from 3:30-5:30 pm at Swinson Park.
SOFTBALL TRYOUTS – Softball tryouts for 7th & 8th grade girls will begin Thursday, February 16th and on Friday, February 17th from 3:15-5:00 pm on the field behind MCMS.
You must have on hand your current grades, physical and proof of insurance before you try out. All girls trying out for softball are reminded that rides must be ready to pick them up by 5:15pm.
PTO Candy Gram’s for Valentine’s Day – All candy grams will be delivered during homeroom today, Valentine’s Day, Tuesday, February 14th.
*Morehead City Middle (726-1126): Deliveries from outside of school will be held in the office until the end of the day. No deliveries allowed on buses – parents must pick up at the end of the day.
Spring Photos – Individual Spring photos will be taking on Thursday, Feb. 23 during your scheduled lunch period. Please bring your picture order form and payment on the day on the day pictures are taken. Pictures can be pre-ordered online at payments.lifetouch.com
Sport Picture Day – Sports pictures will also be taken on Thursday, February 23rd after school for the following teams:

Wrestling News - The extremely prepared MCMS Minuteman Wrestlers were once again victorious against the Eagles of Newport. With a score of 42 -18 our boys finished out the regular season strong.
Congratulations to the following wrestlers who won matches last night. Malique Johnson (won two matches), Patrick Edge (won two matches), Ruffin Mancuso, Hunter Newman, Tony Sharpe, Will Newbern (won two matches), Brooks Holmes, and Teddy Teague.
Our next event is the Conference Tournament tomorrow, Wednesday at Broad Creek. Many of your MCMS wrestlers are top seeds and we are poised to knock Broad Creek off of their pedestal and bring home a first place team trophy FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MCMS HISTORY!
Please dismiss the MCMS wrestling team and managers tomorrow @ 1:20pm for our Conference Tournament at Broad Creek.
Weigh-ins start at 2:00 with a coach's meeting afterward. Wrestling begins at 3:30 (probably closer to 3:45) and should last about 3 hours. Quite a few of our guys should receive medals so come out and support our team if you have the time.
Basketball Games – The boy's basketball team finished up the season with a win over Down East last night. It was a balanced attack with everyone getting involved in the attack. Coach Smith would like to thank all of the boys for a great season and especially thank his two year players Daniel Fischler, Fred Horne, Rodney Mitchell, and Nathan Windley for a great career.
The girl’s basketball team traveled to Atlantic last night to battle the down east dolphins. The girls fought hard and played some tenacious defense against down east for four quarters. They were short of the win but really gave those down east girls a run for their money. The lady minutemen worked extremely hard this season and have truly learned the meaning of hard work and embodying the spirit of team. Coach Schopfel would like to thank the players for a wonderful season!

Battle of the Books –The Battle of the Books practices on Thursday this week in room 27 until 4:30. Members need to bring permission slips and $15 to cover t-shirt and field trip expenses. Money and permission slips need to be turned in by this Thursday, 2-16.
Battle of the Books competition is on Friday, February 24 at West Carteret High School.
Newport Girls Softball – Come and Join the FUN!
How: Registration will be held Friday nights from 5-7 pm and Saturdays from 2-4 pm at the Newport Girls Softball Fields throughout the month of February (Behind NES)
Age: Open to all girls ages 5-18
Cost: $50.00 per Child

*2012 Brad Sneeden Marine Science Academy –
The 2012 Brad Sneeden Marine Science Academy applications for all rising 7th, 8th, and 9th grader
are now in the front office of our school and you can also get copies of the application on line at www.carteretcountyschools.org.
Tuition is $185.00; however, a number of partial scholarships are available.
Please help us fill the Marine Science Academy with students ready for an exciting, enriching week.
Applications are due by April 27th, 2012.
*Summer Middle School Engineering Camp –
The NC State College of Engineering and Craven Community College will offer an exciting, weeklong summer day camp this June 25 – June 29 for middle school students (rising 7th, 8th and 9th graders) at Havelock campus of Craven Community College.
Cost for the camp is $250 per student. Scholarships may be available for students with demonstrated financial need.

Lost and Found Items – Parents, there is now a link on the MCMS web page that allows you to check “Lost and Found” items that have been collected. We encourage you to collect your valuable items before we donate to charity organizations. The lost and found list is updated each Friday.
