Happy Monday!

MCMS will have a prosperous 2009-2010 School Year.

We are in Desperate Need of Your Help!!!
EOG's will be given on each of the following dates beginning: 5/11, 5/13, 5/18, 5/19, 5/20, 5/21, 5/25, 5/26, 5/28. Each day we will need approximately 45 proctors to help out with monitoring our state exams. Currently, we only have about 6 proctors that have confirmed for each of the dates above. If, by any chance, you are free and available from 7:30-10:30am any of these dates, we would be very grateful for your time. Please contact Carol Tabor, Libby-Tripp-Cox, or Jason Miles.

Band News –
· Solo and Ensemble Festival: Congratulations to the more than 50 band students who participated in the Eastern District Solo and Ensemble Festival at the East Carolina University School of Music this past Saturday. These students spent many extra hours to prepare their pieces for performances that were judged for ratings. We're still waiting on results, but know that all of our students performed their best, and improved their musical abilities just in preparing for the festival. Thank you students for your hard work! We are very proud of you.
· Thanks once again to our MCMS Band Students, Mr. David Fye (our band director), and his helpers for all the hard work that went in preparing for the great band concert on Thursday evening. These concerts take a lot of practice and work by this fine team of musicians. We are PROUD of you!

Sport Physicals for rising 9th graders - "Sports physicals will be available to all West Carteret High School athletes, including rising 9th graders, on WEDNESDAY, MAY 19 FROM 6PM - 8PM IN THE FRONT OFFICE OF WCHS. Area medical providers will provide this service, and a $5.00 donation to the Athletic Booster Club would be appreciated. Physical forms are available in the front office of WCHS or may be printed off the WCHS website under the Athletics tab. Parents are asked to complete as much of the form as possible before coming and need to accompany their student on May 19. Sports physicals are required each year and must be completed before any practice or tryout for a team at WCHS."

Track News – The boys and girls track teams both won 1st place at the conference meet on Thursday at East Carteret High School. The boys defended their 2009 title scoring 75 points to Newport's 68 and Broad Creeks 67. The girls’ team made history doing what no other team has ever done. They beat Broad Creek 88 to 70. Broad Creek's girls’ team has never lost the conference meet and marks Morehead's first title in girls track. Congratulations Minutemen! You make us PROUD!

Softball News – The MCMS softball team finished their season up strong on Thursday afternoon. They played fantastic as a team! Colleen Taylor threw out 3 runners! MacKenzie Guthrie made an awesome catch in center field! Holly Wickizer and Sam Glasgow threw many strikes! Heather McCoy was outstanding at first base, stretching to catch those balls. Great season ladies!* Our end of season celebration will be Wednesday, May 12th from 3 to 7 at Blair Farms clubhouse!

Baseball News – The MCMS Minutemen became Conference Champions on Thursday afternoon by defeating Pamlico Middle School, 7-6. The Minutemen finish the season with 11 wins and only 1 lose. It was a great year for a great team. Everyone worked hard all season and they deserve the Championship they won. Congratulations!

Media Mania News …. Don’t get caught without a BOOK!
BEAT THE WORLD RECORD: Be sure to sign up for Beat the World Record. If everyone in our school participates and records the minutes they read per day, we could be one of 20 schools to be recorded in Scholastics Book of World Records. It's easy. It's free. There are other activities on the site you might find interesting. Check it out. Visit the media blog under the Student menu on the school website for more information. Summer Golf Clinic – Minutemen, do you like to play golf? If so, the Morehead City Country Club is offering a Junior clinic this summer for boys and girls ages 6-11. They are also offering an Advanced golf clinic for boys and girls ages 12-up. These summer long clinics offer high quality instruction at a very reasonable price. It would be a great way to learn how to play golf if you are interested in trying out for the golf team. It would also be an excellent way to improve the skill you have. For information and an informative flier see Mr. Lewis.

2010 Youth Entrepreneurship Camp – Open to rising 7th graders through rising 9th graders:

If you are interested in purchasing a bird house, please contact Ms. Lawrence or Mr. Butler at the school by calling 252-726-1126.
