Athletic Survey

Please visit our school website and fill out a survey that will help us prioritize the needs of MCMS' athletic program. The survey should take less than 5 minutes and will run until March 5.

The Brad Sneeden Marine Science Academy - Applications are now available in the front office for the Brad Sneeden Marine Science Academy that will be a week long camp from June 14-18. The Theme this year will be Careers. Deadline for applications are due by Friday, April 23, 2010. There will be fifty (50) applicants accepted from the Carteret County Public School System. Applicants must be entering the 7^th, 8^th, or 9^th grade in the fall of 2010. Students who took part in the Academy last year are not eligible to apply this year.

Stop by the office for more information and your three page application.

Volley Ball Players – The Volleyball Players Team picture date has been change to Friday, February 26^th immediately after school.

BAND ANNOUCEMENTS –

* All 7^th and 8^th grade band students will have full band rehearsal during their encore periods on Thursday.

* The MCMS percussion ensemble will rehearse this Friday after school until 5:00 pm to prepare for their competition at Cary High School this weekend.

* Applications for the Carteret County Honors Band have been given to all 7th and 8th grade band students. This is a great opportunity for students interested in playing with other middle school band students from our County.

* Our 7th and 8th grade band students will be taking an upcoming trip on Wednesday, March 3^rd. All 7th and 8th grade band students will be traveling to West Craven HS to participate in the NC Eastern District Music Performance Adjudication Festival (known as the Middle School Band Festival).

Yearbook Sales - Yearbooks are on sale until Friday, March 26^th for $25.

If you do not remember whether or not you ordered a yearbook, ask your homeroom teacher to check the spreadsheet that Mrs. Piner emailed to them.

Only a few extra yearbooks will be ordered for purchase in June. Make sure you have reserved a copy by ordering by March 26^th.

Baseball Team Tryouts - Baseball tryouts will be held at Swinson Park today, Wednesday the 24th from 3:30 to 6:00.

Softball Tryouts - Softball Team tryouts will be held on the Girl's Softball Field today, Wednesday the 24th from 3:30 to 5:00.

* You must have all appropriate forms to tryout! Please see the office for forms.

* Girls must be present all days of tryout!

* Volunteer Training Session - Due to the influx of volunteer applications, Ms. Huntley will provide a volunteer training session at Newport Elementary School today, Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at 8:30 AM.

Birdhouses for Sale - Buy a birdhouse and help our feathered friends and our school! Students from Ms. Lawrence and Mr. Butlers classes are making and selling birdhouses in order to raise funds for classroom materials and supplies. Not only are our students learning a hands-on approach to building but they are giving our feathered friends a nice home and raising money for their classrooms. The bird houses are on sale for $20. If you are interested in purchasing a bird house, please contact Ms. Lawrence or Mr. Butler at the school by calling 252-726-1126.

Radical Readers –

Warrior Heir Committee – Warrior Heir Committee will not meet this week. We WILL meet on Tuesday, March 2^nd and on Wednesday, March 3^rd until 4:30.

We may meet on Thursday March 4^th if needed. Stay tuned! This is to give us time to prepare for the WAR!

Sixth grade will have a War of the Roses event. It will run for the sixth grade from 2:00-3:00 pm on 3-5-10. We will need 6th grade staff to assist.

Media Mania News …. Don’t get caught without a BOOK!

Battle of the Books Team – The Battle of the Books Team will meet today and Thursday. NO! Battle of the Books on Friday!

Bright Ideas – What a Bright idea! The MCMS Office is selling CFLs (Compact fluorescent light bulbs) for $2.00 each. Most stores sell them for $4.00 to $6.00 each, so this is a quite a deal. We have 75 and 100 watt bulbs available, and 100% of the funds from this fundraiser stay with MCMS. Please see any staff member in the office to purchase your CFLs today!

Earn $$$ for MCMS - A big thank you to everyone who linked their Harris Teeter VIC card to MCMS last year! Please remember to link your Harris Teeter VIC cards to MCMS again for this school year as well. All you have to do is go to www.harristeeter.com and select the Community Tab, then Together In Education (on the left side). At the bottom of that page click on Link your VIC card to your school now! Just fill out the next page, entering our school code of 7643, and you’re all set to help MCMS earn much needed funds for the 2009-2010 school year. Lowe’s Gift Cards – Lowe’s Gift Cards are now available to purchase in the school office for $50.00. Morehead Middle receives 10% of this when one is purchased from our school. Come by the office soon and get yours!
