Athletic Booster Survey - Improve our athletic program-5 minutes or less. As we redefine our Booster's Athletic Program, we value your input as teachers, parents, and coaches. Athletic Booster Club – The next Booster Club meeting is scheduled for Monday, February 22nd @ 6:00 pm in the school cafeteria.

The Brad Sneeden Marine Science Academy - Applications are now available in the front office for the Brad Sneeden Marine Science Academy that will be a week long camp from June 14-18. The Theme this year will be Careers. Deadline for applications are due by Friday, April 23, 2010. There will be fifty (50) applicants accepted from the Carteret County Public School System. Applicants must be entering the 7th, 8th, or 9th grade in the fall of 2010. Students who took part in the Academy last year are not eligible to apply this year.

Stop by the office for more information and your three page application.

Cheerleaders - Dr. Kreuser has requested the presence of the cheerleaders in uniform today, Friday to help with the wrestling tournament. Please make plans to attend after school on Friday until 6pm. If you wish to stay for the entire event, you may do so. It will go on until 9 pm. This is for this Friday.

Volley Ball Players – The Volleyball Players Team picture date has been change to Friday, February 26th immediately after school.


BAND ANNOUCEMENTS

* The MCMS Percussion Ensemble will rehearse today, Friday after school until 5:00 pm. We have just 2 rehearsals before our first competition!

* Applications for the Carteret County Honors Band have been given to all 7th and 8th grade band students. This is a great opportunity for students interested in playing with other middle school band students from our County.

* Our 7th and 8th grade band students will be taking an upcoming trip on Wednesday, March 3rd. All 7th and 8th grade band students will be traveling to West Craven HS to participate in the NC Eastern District Music Performance Adjudication Festival (known as the Middle School Band Festival).

The Action Now Club – Do you enjoy helping others? Interested in saving the world? How about working with other teens to do great things? Morehead City Middle School is starting a new club called Action Now! As a team we will take on service projects that include your ideas on recycling, beach cleaning, community service and helping others. Not only will we help others, we will have fun doing it!

Ask you Social Studies teacher for applications, as spots for students are limited to 5 spots per grade level. Applications are due today, Friday, February 19th.

Wrestling News – On today, Friday, February 19th we will host the Conference Tournament here at MCMS beginning at 4:00 pm. Please come out and support our team. We will have several wrestlers seeded in 1st or 2nd position in the brackets. WE hope to see you here! GO MINUTEMEN!

Yearbook Sales - Yearbooks are on sale until Friday, March 26th for $25.

If you do not remember whether or not you ordered a yearbook, ask your homeroom teacher to check the spreadsheet that Mrs. Piner emailed to them.

Only a few extra yearbooks will be ordered for purchase in June. Make sure you have reserved a copy by ordering by March 26th.

Yearbook Meeting – The next Yearbook meeting will be on Tuesday, February 23rd.

Boys’ Basketball – The boys’ basketball team finished their season with a terrific game against Pamlico in a hard-fought game, losing 38-33. Chase Carraway (12), Hunter Dees (8) and Kuwain Green (6) were the leading scorers but all Minutemen played a terrific game. The team wants to thank all of the fans that supported us all year.

Girls’ Basketball – The Lady Minutemen finished out our season with a win over Pamlico last night. At this time we are in 2nd place in our conference. Congratulations ladies for an outstanding win and remarkable season. We will have a shoot around practice on Monday from 3:15 to 4:15 pm.


Baseball Team Tryouts - Baseball tryouts will be held at Swinson Park on Monday, February 22nd, Tuesday the 23rd, and Wednesday the 24th from 3:30 to 6:00.

Softball Tryouts - Softball Team tryouts will be held on the Girl's Softball Field beginning on Monday, February 22nd, 23rd, and 24th from 3:30 to 5:00.

* You must have all appropriate forms by Monday to tryout! Please see the office for forms.

* Girls must be present MONDAY, TUESDAY, and WEDNESDAY to tryout!

* Volunteer Training Session - Due to the influx of volunteer applications, Ms. Huntley will provide a volunteer training session at Newport Elementary School on Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at 8:30 AM.

Birdhouses for Sale - Buy a birdhouse and help our feathered friends and our school! Students from Ms. Lawrence and Mr. Butlers classes are making and selling birdhouses in order to raise funds for classroom materials and supplies. Not only are our students learning a hands-on approach to building but they are giving our feathered friends a nice home and raising money for their classrooms. The bird houses are on sale for $20. If you are interested in purchasing a bird house, please contact Ms. Lawrence or Mr. Butler at the school by calling 252-726-1126.

Radical Readers –

Warrior Heir Committee - Sixth grade will have a War of the Roses event. It will run for the sixth grade from 2-3 on 3-5-10. We will need 6th grade staff to assist.

Media Mania News …. Don’t get caught without a BOOK!

Battle of the Books Team – The Battle of the Books Team will begin meeting each Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 12:00-1:00 (Bring your Lunch with you).

Bright Ideas – What a Bright idea! The MCMS Office is selling CFLs (Compact fluorescent light bulbs) for $2.00 each. Most stores sell them for $4.00 to $6.00 each, so this is a quite a deal. We have 75 and 100 watt bulbs available, and 100% of the funds from this fundraiser stay with MCMS. Please see any staff member in the office to purchase your CFLs today!

Earn $$$ for MCMS - A big thank you to everyone who linked their Harris Teeter VIC card to MCMS last year! Please remember to link your Harris Teeter VIC cards to MCMS again for this school year as well. All you have to do is go to www.harristeeter.com and select the Community Tab, then Together In Education (on the left side). At the bottom of that page click on Link your VIC card to your school now! Just fill out the next page, entering our school code of 7643, and you’re all set to help MCMS earn much needed funds for the 2009-2010 school year. If you have any questions, please contact Lisa Brown in the office.

Box Tops for Education - We earned over $100 to help fund our PTO's projects from Box Tops in the Fall. Please continue to clip those Box Tops and send them into your child's homeroom teacher by Monday, February 22. Thanks for your contribution!

Lowe’s Gift Cards – Lowe’s Gift Cards are now available to purchase in the school office for $50.00. Morehead Middle receives 10% of this when one is purchased from our school. Come by the office soon and get yours!
